How to have a dope day in Santa Cruz

Deke’s is the spot for delicious sandwiches. The market has plenty of drinks and snacks to complete the meal, and don’t sleep on the DipnDots if they’re in stock.

Pono serves up amazing Hawaiian cuisine, local craft beer, live music, and occasionally karaoke.

Marianne’s Ice Cream is a Santa Cruz staple, just watch out for peak tourist times as the lines can get wild.

Pogonip 

Miles of trails provide hours of joy as you walk amongst gigantic redwood trees and ancient oaks. If you find yourself near an an abandoned lime kiln you’re not far from the hidden koi pond pictured here.

Natural Bridges 

Best viewed during sunrise or sunset, the Natural Bridges are easy to access and offer plenty to discover. The park charges for vehicle access but it’s free to walk in.

Santa Cruz has a few notable parks for varying skill sets, here are 2 that beginners like me can enjoy while tapping into the areas rich boarding history:

Sergeant Darby Park

One of the very first skateparks in the country, cruisin the smooth snaking action to a big bowl washout is tons of fun and is great for learning kick turns.

West Side Pump Track

I love this track, it’s great to guage my progress and get more fun with every run. Not too intimidating for beginners but plenty fun for advanced riders, definitely worth a few laps for visiting boarders.

CannaCruz is right off 17 on the way into town so if you’re looking for easy access and in a hurry this is your place.
